بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
إِنَّآ أَنزَلۡنَٰهُ فِي لَيۡلَةِ ٱلۡقَدۡرِ ١
Indeed, We sent this [Qur’an] down on the Night of Decree[1].
[1] The Qur’an was first revealed completely to the lowest heaven on this night. Also, its revelation on the Prophet (ﷺ) started on this night.
وَمَآ أَدۡرَىٰكَ مَا لَيۡلَةُ ٱلۡقَدۡرِ ٢
How do you know what the Night of Decree is?
لَيۡلَةُ ٱلۡقَدۡرِ خَيۡرٞ مِّنۡ أَلۡفِ شَهۡرٖ ٣
The Night of Decree is better than a thousand months.
تَنَزَّلُ ٱلۡمَلَٰٓئِكَةُ وَٱلرُّوحُ فِيهَا بِإِذۡنِ رَبِّهِم مِّن كُلِّ أَمۡرٖ ٤
On that night the angels and the Spirit [i.e., Gabriel] descend by their Lord’s permission with all decrees[2].
[2] Bringing down the exact provisions, life, death, and other things destined for the creatures for the coming year by Allah's permission.
سَلَٰمٌ هِيَ حَتَّىٰ مَطۡلَعِ ٱلۡفَجۡرِ ٥
It is all peace[3] until the break of dawn.
[3] Upon the believers.
