Quran Classes for New Muslims
Nothing is assumed, and nothing is rushed
You do not need to know a single Arabic letter, and you will not be expected to know terms nobody has explained to you. Lessons begin from wherever you genuinely are and move at your pace. Everything is taught in English, with Arabic words introduced one at a time and explained properly rather than dropped into conversation as if you should already know them.
First, what you need for your prayer
Most new Muslims want the same thing first: to pray properly and with understanding. So lessons usually begin with wudu, the movements and words of the salah, and Surah al-Fatihah — what it says as well as how to say it — followed by short surahs you can use straight away. Being able to pray with confidence changes everything else, so it comes first.
Reading the Qur'an, from the letters up
Alongside the practical side, you will start learning to read Arabic script itself, beginning with the letters and their sounds. Many new Muslims rely on transliteration at first, which is a reasonable start but a poor long-term crutch. Your teacher will move you off it gently, and reading the Qur'an directly usually arrives sooner than expected.
The basics of belief, taught soundly
Alongside practice you will learn what Muslims believe and why: the meaning of la ilaha illa Allah, that worship and supplication belong to Allah alone, and that He is described as He and His Messenger described Him. This follows what Ahl as-Sunnah wa'l-Jama'ah have always taught — the Qur'an and authentic Sunnah as understood by the Companions and those after them — explained plainly and without argument.
Ask anything, including what feels obvious
One-to-one lessons exist partly so that no question is too basic to ask. Teachers here are used to being asked things a lifelong Muslim might take for granted, and they answer without surprise. If you would prefer a male or a female teacher, say so when you book. Your first lesson is free and needs no card.
